Child Protection Awareness

Statutory training meeting the requirement of the ‘robust 3-yearly training’ for whole staff communities.

This course is essential for all staff working within the authority whose role includes contact/services provision for children and families. Exploring Duty of Care in line with Local Safeguarding Children Partnership (formally LSCB) procedures, this training promotes:

  • Understanding of national guidance and procedures
  • Recognising the four categories of abuse
  • Listening to children
  • Awareness raising of key challenges including Online Safety, Radicalisation, Criminal Exploitation (including County Lines and Child Sexual Exploitation) and HBV (Honour- Based Violence including FGM, Female Genital Mutilation).

Designated Safeguarding Lead / Advanced Child Protection

TARGET AUDIENCE
All officers with a lead or designated professional role for safeguarding

DURATION

Statutory requirement for officers meeting ‘robust 2-yearly training’ for those with a lead or designated professional role for safeguarding within the authority. Having completed safeguarding awareness training, this course equips officers to perform their senior safeguarding function.

Course content includes:

  • Latest legislation and procedures, the Children’s Acts (1989/2004), The Children and Social Care Act 2017 and Working Together to Safeguard Children (July 2018)
  • The role of the Designated Safeguarding Lead
  • Policy development
  • Awareness of multi-agency working
  • Information sharing
  • The referral processes
  • Thresholds or risk analysis
  • Management of safeguarding with staff and within settings

Safer Recruitment

TARGET AUDIENCE
Senior Leadership Teams / those involved in the recruitment process of staff working with children and families.

It is crucial to create a culture of safer recruitment that includes the implementation of a recruitment procedure to help eliminate or identify people who might pose a safeguarding or welfare threat. Within the Children’s Act 2004 the expectation is that organisations fulfil their statutory safeguarding obligations to keep children safe of which Safer Recruitment is an integral part.

Our face-to-face courses are delivered by an accredited trainer from the Safer Recruitment Consortium, which is certificated and covers:

  • Safer recruitment and the wider context of safeguarding
  • Prevalence of abuse and profile of abusers
  • How abusers operate within organisations
  • Features of a safer recruitment process
  • Planning a safer recruitment process
  • Making the right decisions: interview and selection
  • Setting acceptable standards of behaviour
  • Maintaining an ongoing culture of vigilance

Members safeguarding awareness training

TARGET AUDIENCE
For Local Authority members

Designed for members who wish to undertake robust training to ensure understanding of their role and remit of safeguarding within the Local Authority. Introducing national legislation and guidance, safeguarding processes and procedures, roles and responsibilities of members, the categories of abuse and an insight into responding to safeguarding concerns in relation to children and adults at risk.


Raising awareness of the Prevent Duty

TARGET AUDIENCE
All professionals working with children and families

DURATION
1.5 Hours

Statutory training regarding the prevention of terrorism. An interactive session with explores the context of the Prevent duty and the expectation within the children and young people’s sector.

With a sector-specific oversight and clear and concise guidance around implementation of the ‘due regard’ to the duty, exploration will also take place to review the implementation of the ‘British values’ in practice.


Introduction to safeguarding children and adults at risk

TARGET AUDIENCE
Frontline staff working in settings with minimal or ad-hoc contact with children and adults at risk.

DURATION
3 Hours

COST
From £450 + VAT

Training targeted at staff who may have minimal or ad-hoc contact with service users, needing a basic awareness of adult safeguarding and child protection.

This course is essential in understanding:

  • The categories of abuse for both safeguarding adults with care and support needs, and children
  • Current national guidance and procedures
  • Duty of care on the Local Authority, ensuring recognition, response and referral
  • The role of the Designated Safeguarding Team
  • Referral pathways specific to safeguarding concerns

NB. This does NOT replace the statutory 3-hour training for frontline staff.


Consultancy

Duration and cost agreed on a requirement basis

In ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children (July 2018)’ all settings are advised of their organisational responsibility from Section 11 of the Children Act 2004: 

Chapter 2 

“…practitioners should be given sufficient time, funding, SUPERVISION and support to fulfil their child welfare and safeguarding responsibilities effectively. …appropriate SUPERVISION and support for staff, including undertaking safeguarding training.” 

ECP provides this specialist supervision by NSPCC-trained staff with over 20 years’ experience in the field of child protection. This will enable professionals to reflect on their own practice and the impact of cases on both the victim and themselves as frontline staff who work with those children who have suffered abuse.
